About UNBORDER
UNBORDER is a poem-centric cross-arts e-journal of culture, focused on translation and parallel text presentation of poems.
UNBORDER is published in free association with Flying Islands Poetry Community.
UNBORDER is open to all forms of artistic expression, and, in principle, to poetry from (and between) all languages.
UNBORDER aims to deliver text, image, audio and video material from a single website.
UNBORDER is particularly interested in works and activities that blur or play with accepted boundaries between art forms.
UNBORDER operates with English as an initial ‘anchor-language.’ That is to say, texts in languages other than English will be presented on our webpages in parallel with an English translation. Other ‘anchor languages’ may be added over time.
Content categories for UNBORDER may include, going forward:
- poetry (original and translated) presented in parallel text, with English as the initial ‘anchor-language’
- original visual artworks
- (accessible) essays about poetry, art and translation
- features on particular practices, practitioners, events
- calls for submission
- conversations between/among poets, translators and artists on topics of relevance to the journal
- reviews of books, launch speeches, etc
- relevant news, call and links
This initial issue calls for submissions to a Salon des Refusés, to be established as our regular open call feature from the second issue. Work submitted for the Salon des Refusés will have to state the venue or venues (e.g., competition, magazine, gallery) from which it was rejected. Accepted submissions will be published with this information appended.
While UNBORDER is a venue for the discussion of the arts, of poetry and translation (including interviews, conversations, reviews and critical essays), its core activity is the presentation of creative work itself.
UNBORDER is a voluntary, non-profit international e-zine. It does not pay its board, staff or contributors. It aims to run essentially without budgetary constraints.
UNBORDER aims to create a permanent-as-possible venue for all of the aims disclosed above.
