Gang Gu

Gu Gang was born in Urumqi, in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, in 1962. As a little child, he grew up in Shanghai raised by his grandparents. He became familiar with classical poetry and calligraphy since his grandfather was very keen in both. He graduated from the Department of Economics of the University of Shenzhen, but has always been active in the literary world of Shanghai and, in particular, in the poetic scene of the city. Nowadays, he carries out activities to disseminate the traditional culture of Shanghai through seminars that he holds in universities, cultural centers, art galleries. The collection of his selected poems from 1987 to 2011 《尘世的重负》(Chénshì de zhòngfù) has been published as Earthly Burdens in 2013 by Red Hen Press.
